Ideal for organisations without dedicated in-house HR, our retained clients receive hands-on support from a senior HR consultant to manage all your operational or strategic HR requirements, while working as part of your team. The monthly fee allows you to plan your budget, but with flexibility as your needs change. Our monthly retainer can include some or all of the following:
HR Advisory Service
You will have unlimited access to your dedicated named senior HR consultant for any routine day to day HR advice enquiries, with access to the wider team when they are not available so that your enquiry is dealt with quickly. This covers any ad hoc queries of under 20 minutes duration. Time spent on any calls of 20 minutes duration or more, or where the call relates to an ongoing issue, will be deducted from your consultancy hours.
Access to the wider HR team
You and your team will have access to the full HR team through a direct advice line number meaning that, even in the absence of your dedicated HR consultant, you will be able to access advice at any time. Our team work collaboratively, giving you the combined expertise of a large and experienced HR team
Seamless support from LAW’s in-house legal team
The HR At Work team work closely with LAW’s employment lawyers, giving you the benefit of ongoing HR support backed up by a first-rate team of employment lawyers
Banked hours for consultancy support
At the start of the relationship, we will agree an amount of HR consultancy time in the form of ‘banked hours’ and spread this over the contract period to be used flexibly as required but giving you predictability of budgeting. We know it’s difficult to anticipate the level of HR management support your business may need. So, during the contract, if you find you would value more support on a regular basis, we can adjust the retainer. If at times you require less support, then you have peace of mind that you have time available when you need it.
A dedicated senior HR consultant
Your HR consultant will meet with you at the outset of the relationship, and regularly thereafter, ensuring they are fully familiar with your business and its specific challenges. You will have the direct contact number for your HR consultant. And if they are out of the office, any ongoing urgent issues will be passed to an equally qualified colleague, so you don't have to wait for a response
HR action plan
In order to understand how we can best support you, at the start of the relationship your HR consultant will meet with you to review everything you have in place and develop an HR action plan based on your priorities and needs. As well as supporting on a day to day basis, your HR consultant will proactively work with you to ensure that identified projects are completed successfully. We can also plan business improvement projects with you.
Hands-on, flexible support
Our support can be at your business premises, either with your HR consultant taking complete responsibility for handling an HR matter from start to finish, or actively supporting your internal management team. Our HR support service covers everything you would imagine an internal HR team would cover – starting with day to day operational HR management, such as handling disciplinary and grievances; absence issues; performance management and training. But it also includes more strategic HR management such as pay and reward, job evaluation, culture, staff engagement, learning & development plans, etc. Our service includes drafting settlement agreements, negotiating exits, handling TUPE transfers for businesses and attendance at board meetings.
HR documentation healthcheck
When you start to work with us, your HR consultant will carry out a thorough review of your employment contracts, policies, procedures and other employee related documentation. We will produce a comprehensive audit report, setting out any areas where you are not compliant with the law, and with suggestions for improvements and best practice. With your agreement, we will draft updated documentation to fill any gaps. If you don’t already have existing documentation, we’ll provide what you need, tailored to your requirements.
Your HR consultant will review your contracts and other documentation on an annual basis, to ensure it remains up to date and in line with best practice
We scan the horizon so you don't have to. During the year, where there are significant legal and HR changes that affect your business, we'll make you aware of them so you're always ahead of the curve.
Online Client Area
You and your team will have access to a secure online area where you can access style documentation including letters, contracts, policies, guidance notes and more. Your HR consultant can help tailor these documents to your own specific needs. When you log on, we'll tell you what's changed since your last visit.
