Recruitment procedures: The importance of proofreading job ads

A Liverpool Hospital Trust has launched an inquiry after a job advertisement published on its website portrayed (at best!) a rather blasé view of their equal opportunity policies.

The advert which invited applications for a post as an anaesthetist at the Royal Liverpool & Broadgreen University Hospital NHS Trust, contained the phrase ‘usual rubbish about equal opportunities employer’ at the bottom of the advert.  

It is believed that a doctor looking to apply for the position spotted the wording which replaced the more familiar equal opportunity provision normally found in such adverts.  

A Trust spokesman was quick to stress that ‘the wording on this advert in no way reflects the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust’s position in relation to equal opportunities, to which it is fully committed.’  

The wording has since been changed.   

Yet another reason to use LAW to audit your policies and procedures to ensure that they are compliant with employment law (both in the letter and in the spirit!)
