A construction company director has been jailed for one year after a complete lack of risk assessment and work controls led to the death of a passing lawyer in the street.
Amanda Telfer, 43, was walking past the building site in central London when unsecured window frames, weighing 1,444lbs, fell over and struck her on the head as she walked by.
The responsible Company Director, Kevin Adsett, of IS Europe Ltd, was convicted of manslaughter by a Judge at the Old Bailey, who commented that the death was “wholly needless”.
The site manager, Damien Hall, of Westgreen Construction, also received a six month suspended sentence for associated site safety breaches.
