Let's do Manual Handling Assessments

Health & Safety

You are invited to join the LAW Health and Safety Managers for a hands-on session undertaking manual handling risk assessments using the Health and Safety Executive approved assessment toolkits.

One major non compliance in many workplaces is the lack of understanding towards manual handling legislation and proper risk assessment evidence. It is not sufficient to claim employees are trained to lift correctly when it is unlikely that they are.

‘In 1999 the case of Stone v Commissioner of Police for the Metropolis, the claimant had to carry boxes and received a back injury and £384,497 compensation due to no risk assessment. Because of her injuries, she was unlikely ever to work again.’

We will be explaining and will practice using, the various Assessment Tools available:

  • MAC tool is used to assess the risks posed by lifting, lowering, carrying and team manual handling activities. It is designed to help you understand, interpret and categorise the level of risk of various known risk factors associated with manual handling activities.
  • V-MAC tool is used with the MAC tool to assess manual handling operations where the load weights are variable.
  • ART tool is used to assess repetitive tasks involving the upper limbs.
  • RAPP tool is used to take you through issues you need to consider when pushing and pulling.

Join us for a tea or coffee, from 15 min before the event, and take the opportunity to chat with other attendees or one of our team. We always welcome questions and discussion during our seminars, but we know that sometimes it’s better to deal with specific queries confidentially. Please feel free to grab one of our team after the event for a private chat about any issues affecting your organisation.

These seminars are FREE. However due to increasing demand with every round of seminars we conduct, we strongly suggest early booking to avoid disappointment.
