The next stage for this Bill, Second reading, is scheduled to take place on Friday 8 January 2021. Government website indicates “still in progress”.

This is a Private Members' Bill and was introduced to Parliament on Monday 16 March 2020 under the Ten-Minute Rule by Alex Norris MP. The main current text of the Bill can be read here.

Recent statistics indicate, since late February, and the onset of panic buying and the following month the introduction of social distancing, the average retail worker has been assaulted, threatened, or abused once every 6.5 days
