Food Allergy Changes On The Way

  • Plans to introduce the new legislation this summer, which will mandate full ingredients labelling for foods which are prepacked for direct sale. It is proposed that the new laws will come into force in England, Wales and Northern Ireland by summer 2021 – giving food businesses time to adapt to the change. Equally, the Food Standards Scotland in May recommended improved allergen information on pre-packed foods for direct sale, for example foods such as sandwiches and salads which are made and packaged on the same premises where they are sold. This is now being referred to Scottish Ministers.

Grenfell Update

  • The government has announced that the legislation to implement Dame Judith Hackitt’s recommendations for building regulations and fire safety will be brought before parliament later this year.

  • The Metropolitan police say they have carried out 13 interviews under criminal caution as part of their investigation. The potential criminal offences being investigated range from the most serious, manslaughter, through to health and safety offences.
