An American helicopter pilot has landed in hot water with the authorities in the UAE after posting a Facebook rant about his Emirates-based employer, Global Aerospace Logistics.

Ryan Pate from Florida was arrested by Emirati police for breaking strict local laws against slandering your employer. The rant stemmed from alleged poor treatment of Mr Pate when he tried to request time off to seek medical treatment in the US. Mr Pate branded the company “backstabbers” but thought nothing more of his vent until the UAE police arrived at his door. If convicted, he would have faced up to five years in prison and a hefty fine. However, it is understood that charges against the American have been dropped following intervention from US Congressman David Jolly.
