SPOTLIGHT on menopause in the workplace.
The workplace often provides an insightful snapshot of perceptions and attitudes in wider society so it will be no surprise to learn that research and surveys indicate that women of menopausal age feel let down in the workplace. The treatment that menopausal women might experience in the workplace ranges from a lack of basic support from managers and colleagues through to mocking and derogatory comments.
Menopause is still a “taboo” subject in many workplaces and the lack of open discussion surrounding menopause is a major contributor to women feeling unsupported. Many employers have done a lot of great work in relation to increasing mental health awareness (another traditionally “taboo” subject) with fantastic results. Let’s now add menopause to the agenda!
Our spotlight on menopause in the workplace is the perfect place to start. At this half-day session, you’ll:
• learn about the menopause, the symptoms and what women going through the menopause might experience
• understand how menopause symptoms can impact employees at work, how you can support an employee who is going through the menopause and what adjustments might be helpful
• learn about the legal risks and obligations associated with managing employees going through the menopause in order to avoid acts of discrimination
• Understand the role that workplace culture can play in supporting employees going through the menopause and how you can contribute to creating a supportive culture
You’ll leave the training course equipped with the knowledge and tools that you need to effectively and confidently support employees going through the menopause.
