Sickness absence can cause employers many headaches and those headaches may be different depending on whether the absence you are dealing with is short-term or long-term. When it comes to intermittent short-term absence, the main challenge is usually its unpredictable nature and the impact on covering the employee’s work. When it comes to long term absence, the difficulty may be deciding how long you can keep the employee’s job open for.
