Margaret Anne Soderqvist-Clark

Deputy Head of Legal Services

With an honours degree in psychology, and eight years’ experience specialising in employment law, Margaret Anne is a highly skilled solicitor who gets the job done with a minimum of fuss. Advising clients on all aspects of employment law, she has particular expertise in discrimination, equal pay and equality matters. She also has extensive experience of advising on redundancies, business reorganisations, TUPE and all aspects of the employment relationship.

Margaret Anne also delivers tailored training for clients on all areas of employment law and regularly speaks at external briefings and updates.

Margaret Anne believes that her unwillingness to speak Latin and her reluctance to write ten page letters when a short letter is what is needed have benefited her and the clients she works with.
John Wilson

Senior Legal Manager

John is steeped in employment law. Prior to his career at Law At Work, John developed his expertise as an advisor with ACAS and as a manager of a large team of employment law advisors for a major British financial organisation. Not happy to sit on his laurels, John is also currently undertaking an LLM course at DeMontford University.

John's significant experience spans a wide range of employment relations issues and he continually provides accurate, practical and commercially aware advice to all of his clients. Although happy to deal with any employment issue, he has developed a particularly thorough understanding of disability discrimination and equal pay cases.
Richard Woods

Head of Litigation

Richard's Irish charm is a welcome addition to the LAW office and he has a wide number of interests outside of the law and is involved in projects in Africa that work to supply clean water to local communities. Having initially trained as a Biochemist, Richard discovered that his excellent communication skills would be best served dealing directly with people and helping to solve their legal problems.

Richard has been with LAW for 6 years and, as an experienced litigator, has appeared in many complex tribunals cases throughout the UK as well as at the Employment Appeal Tribunal. Richard’s experience also includes appearance work before the Sheriff Court in Scotland and county court in England in employment related litigation.
Daniel Gorry

Legal Manager

After a spell flirting with the music industry and playing at T in the Park, Daniel traded in his guitar for a career in employment law with Law at Work.

Since qualifying as a solicitor in 2006, Daniel has channelled his creative talents into advising clients on all aspects of employment law. Daniel has been on tour at a number of employment tribunals dealing with cases on unfair dismissal, discrimination and TUPE.

From his involvement in complex company restructures, Daniel has developed an in depth knowledge of the education and leisure sectors and is adept at providing clients with the knowledge and the confidence to deal with the myriad of employment issues that they encounter.
Gerard O’Hare

Legal Manager

Gerry completed an M.A. before setting off travelling to find his calling in life which turned out to be a love of photography. In order to fund this expensive hobby Gerry returned to university to study law and, following his traineeship, joined the Law At Work team in 2009.

Gerry's people and analytical skills suit him well to the world of employment law and Law At Work's innovative business model allows him to build strong relationships with his clients and provide them with high quality, practical, hands-on advice. Gerry has a particular interest in employee relations and is also experienced in advising on business reorganisations, workplace policies, contracts and contentious matters.
Katy Marshall

Legal Manager

With 10 years' experience of managing a well known fashion store in Glasgow's Princes Square, Katy is well aware of the challenges that mangers and HR staff face when dealing with difficult staff. After working in the retail sector Katy returned to her studies and completed an LLB at Glasgow University, graduating with merit.

Katy has several years experience advising on all aspects of employment law. She also has particular experience in HR projects including informing and consulting during TUPE transfers, recruitment projects and job evaluation studies and enjoys the insight into her clients’ business that these projects give.
Fiona McBeath

Legal Manager

In a previous life Fiona studied English Literature at St Andrews University, volunteered for hospital radio and enjoyed a spell in London assisting a Media Agency's in-house Creative Team. As a novice climber and a keen hill walker, she quickly began to miss the Scottish mountains and returned to Glasgow in 2006 to study Law at Glasgow University. Fiona enjoyed an eight month seat with Law at Work as part of her traineeship and during this time she built up strong relationships with our clients. Fiona is delighted to have recently returned to the team as a Newly Qualified Legal Manager.

With previous experience in civil litigation, Fiona has appeared in a number of Sheriff Court cases and has a particular interest in contentious matters. She also enjoys assisting clients with any tricky issues they may have regarding absence management, general disciplinary procedures and TUPE transfer queries.
Heather Kemmett

Assistant Legal Manager

Heather recently joined the LAW team as an Assistant Legal Manager. After beginning her university education studying English Literature and French, Heather quickly realised that her talents lay in more practical instruction and changed course to study law. Heather graduated from Strathclyde University in 2010 where she gained a First Class Honours LLB degree and completed the Diploma in Legal Practice, also at Strathclyde, in 2011.

While at University, Heather was delighted to be involved in the University of Strathclyde Law Clinic, which provides free legal advice to members of the public who cannot afford legal services. There she gained excellent experience in providing employment law advice as well as representing clients at Employment Tribunals and in the Small Claims Court.
Hussain Kayani

Assistant Legal Manager

Hussain recently joined the Law at Work team as an Assistant Legal Manager having completed the Diploma in Legal Practice at Strathclyde University in 2011.  He achieved a First Class Honours LLB degree at Glasgow Caledonian University.

He has always had an interest in Employment Law and People Management and undertook a range of electives in Human Resource Management during his degree. He also won the Royal Faculty of Procurators Prize for his Honours Dissertation on the potential impact of the Equality Act 2010 provisions on positive discrimination.

Hussain puts his skills as a trainer to good use as a fully Commissioned Flying Officer with the Royal Air Force Voluntary Reserve (Training Branch).  Most weekends will find him up a mountain or looping the loop at 10,000 feet.
Greg Fletcher

HR Projects Manager/Assistant Legal Manager

Greg came to Scotland for one year in 2001, and never left. He quickly discovered that people are people, and dealing with workplace issues in Scotland was similar to his human resources experience in America.

He designed, launched and managed a high volume recruitment centre for a large UK financial service company recruiting 3000 employees a year, and assessing over 25,000. His extensive experience designing and delivering complex HR projects includes everything from job design and psychometric assessment to induction and managing graduate programmes.

With a Masters Degree in Personnel and Human Resource Management, and 15 years of HR experience in the retail, financial services and the charity sectors, he decided to return to university to complete his LLB and post graduate diploma.

Greg is interested in finding HR and legal solutions that are practical and tailored to client needs.
Ian McKinnon

Head of Health & Safety Services

Ian has specialised in health, safety and environmental management since 1992. His work has led him to take a practical and “sensible” approach to risk management. Ian’s strong background in high-risk industries including construction and complex manufacturing means that he is highly focused on no-nonsense, straightforward and simple solutions.

Ian’s special interests lie in helping clients develop a positive safety culture and training personnel to reduce risk. He believes that the key to establishing a low risk environment is in influencing behaviours at all levels, backed by robust and bespoke management systems.

Ian is a keen Star Wars fan and enjoys saving the galaxy every time a new game is released. When he isn’t flying spaceships or entering ‘aggressive negotiations’ with a lightsabre, he is often found tinkering around with computers.
Thomas Elliot

Health & Safety Manager

A multi skilled man, Thomas’ interests have ranged from the study of laser physics and optoelectronics to (hopefully) a soon to be attained black belt in Taekwon Do. When not trying to cause damage in martial arts, Thomas seeks to prevent harm as a member of Law at Work’s health and safety team.

Thomas qualified in 2004 in Occupational Safety and Health, and in 2006, he became a Chartered Member of IOSH. In 2007, Thomas returned to the private sector and to Law At Work.

With over 10 years experience advising on health & safety and security matters, Thomas is a highly skilled practitioner who takes the time to understand client business needs and give them the peace of mind that all their health and safety requirements are covered.
Ian Watson

Training Services Manager

Ian’s 30 plus years’ experience in people management and employee relations– including 6 years as a conciliator and advisor with ACAS – means that he has come across most workplace issues.

He works across every sector in the labour market and with organisations of all sizes to help them to identify and reduce employment risks, providing practical advice and training.

Ian has a post graduate Masters degree in Industrial Relations and finds being a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development invaluable in keeping his finger on the pulse of professional developments.
