Due to the poor separation and segregation of Fork Lift Trucks (FLTs) from pedestrians within the yard and warehouse area, the employee was struck by a FLT. He suffered a broken arm.

Vehicle separation and segregation are vital when working in areas such as warehouses, even when looking at providing parking for employees or the public. Creating a workplace transport plan is vital, once developed, it should be trained out to staff and those that visit your site, especially delivery drivers. Clear signage and directions are key as well as protected walkways if pedestrians cannot avoid moving in close proximity to working vehicles. The three aspects that should always be focused on are do you have a:

1) Safe vehicle

2) Safe driver

3) Safe site
