Protection from bullying/harassment

Most managers and staff readily understand that workplace bullies and harassers risk being sacked for gross misconduct.

But it often comes as a shock to discover that the managers themselves, and the organisation may be legally liable for the harassing behaviour of others, and, as a consequence, find themselves in front of an employment tribunal, and paying compensation to staff who have been the victims of bullying and harassment.

Understanding how the law of bullying and harassment applies in practice in the workplace and how to avoid this vicarious liability is critical to saving time and money in defending tribunal claims.

That’s what this seminar sets out to achieve.

We will cover:

The recent changes in discrimination law and how they apply in real workplace situations;
How to protect our staff from harassment from customers and visitors;
Why intention is irrelevant when assessing whether a discriminatory act is illegal;
The fact that “bystanders” have legal rights - as well as the victims of harassment;
How to encourage victims of bullying and harassment to raise these issues without fear of victimisation;
How to train line managers to recognise “risky” behaviour and nip it in the bud; Getting the message across to staff that their behaviour will be treated seriously and prevented.

This half day workshop is aimed at HR professionals, Senior Managers, Board members and business owners.

Breakfast and networking opportunities will be available 30 minutes before the advertised start times for the session. During this time, there will be an opportunity to meet with a member of our employment law team to discuss issues on an informal basis.

All delegates at this event can book a free 15 minute consultation with one of our legal managers to take place after the seminar on any employment issue.  Availability is limited and should be booked in advance by email to Gillian Wilson.

Certificates of Attendance (for CPD purposes) can be issued to delegates on the day, if required. Please let us know that you need a certificate on arrival and we will arrange for it to be issued at the end of the session.
