Handling difficult conversations

Most staff are reasonable, hard-working and committed to their jobs. But many managers spend a disproportionate time dealing with the smaller number of difficult people who are challenging, resistant to reason, lazy, constantly complaining or plain cantankerous.

These people are rarely easy to deal with and line managers are often reluctant to tackle them as this involves having ‘difficult’ conversations. But the cost of not tackling these situations can include serious disruption to employee relations, reduced productivity, lower morale and interpersonal conflict.  The credibility of the line manager in the eyes of their team often depends on being seen to confront difficult people and resolve the problems they are creating.

Some managers are born with the skills to tackle difficult conversations, but the rest of us have to learn how to do it.

This seminar will look at the sources of conflict at the workplace and how to approach resolving the most common problem situations.

Our specialists will guide you through techniques for defusing potentially stressful confrontations and finding ways of moving to a calmer, constructive assessment and resolution of the grievance or conflict situation – so that you and your staff can get on with running the business.

This half day workshop is aimed at HR professionals, Senior Managers, Board members and business owners.

Breakfast and networking opportunities will be available 30 minutes before the advertised start times for the session. During this time, there will be an opportunity to meet with a member of our employment law team to discuss issues on an informal basis.

All delegates at this event can book a free 15 minute consultation with one of our legal managers to take place after the seminar on any employment issue.  Availability is limited and should be booked in advance by email to Gillian Wilson.

Certificates of Attendance (for CPD purposes) can be issued to delegates on the day, if required. Please let us know that you need a certificate on arrival and we will arrange for it to be issued at the end of the session.
